The Artist Behind the Designs

Salaam, I’m Erum Khalili, an artist and surface pattern designer who blends cultural heritage with contemporary design. My work spans wall art, textiles, and wearable pieces that aim to feel timeless yet fresh. I believe great design can change how a space feels and how a person feels in it.

My love of pattern started early and evolved through painting, illustration, and digital practice. Over the years I explored traditional motifs and modern palettes, learning how to translate hand painted textures into repeatable fabrics and prints that work beautifully on both walls and wearables.

My practice is rooted in quality, authenticity, and storytelling. Each design is created to spark joy, inspire creativity, and celebrate cultural narratives. I prioritize craftsmanship over fleeting trends so the pieces you choose keep giving long after you first bring them home.

I design with the intention to uplift: whether that’s a painting that brightens a living room or a patterned hijab that boosts confidence, my goal is to create meaningful, lasting work.

From Canvas to Hijabs

One of my proudest projects is Hijabs by Erum, where my original patterns are translated into wearable art. The brand grew from my search for hijabs that combined thoughtful design, real quality, and a fresh aesthetic. Each piece is designed by me!

Inspiration & Process

I draw inspiration from travel, architecture, and nature tiles in Morocco, the curve of an arch, the patterning in leaves. Most designs start in a sketchbook, move to gouache or watercolor, and end in digital refinement. That hybrid approach keeps the warmth of handwork while making the designs adaptable for many products.
